Hello
Hi. :)
Haha. It has been, what, around five months? I have not written anything here.
I think it's more because of fezbook. And of course, one can't share one's ramblings if one's rants are about one's work. That one will get fired. Or create a wrong impression/perception of one's self.
So what's up with me? Well, just chilling. Off to Malaysia for the next two days because of work. Will stop talking about that now.
I'm getting old. In two months, it's intern season once again here. I'll be 3 yrs older than these people - they're the last batch I was still able to encounter in college. Next year, I wouldn't have encountered those 'kids'.
Mehn, I'm getting old. Haha.
Ayun lang. Will sleep na.

Minesweeper
Another completed game! Second in my entire life.
And this time, 576 seconds on my FIRST TRY.
Haha ang babaw. I know I've got a long way to go. Jen can finish this in under a minute. Weirdness.

Sprain
Haaay. This is my first serious foot injury ever. I mean, my right ankle just succumbed to the pressure I put on it while playing basketball awhile ago.
And right it's really hurting. Dammmmiiiiiitttttttttt
Anyway, here's to the end of my low-cut-rubber-shoes era. I seriously dont want to wear high cut ones since they're heavy. I want light shoes. Heehee. I sorta had this agreement with myself that once I suffer a serious injury because of the low cut shoes, then I'll start wearing high cut.
Sheesh. At least I've got a good reason now to buy me some of thoes Hyperdunks. I'm still waiting for the purple and gold ones (Go Lakers!) to arrive here.
Anyway, I need ICE.

I Can Do Anything
Nothing is impossible. Impossible is nothing.
This feat will really sound, uh, minor. Inconsequential. Senseless. No biggie.
But it's important for me.
I HAVE FINALLY FREAKIN' FINISHED MINESWEEPER FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. 2:46 AM of October 6, 2008. Haha. It took me 1,077 seconds in my 55th consecutive game tonight to do it. What a pity, I know.
Anyway, I have come close so many times before. I mean with just two or three bombs remaining only to make a crucial (stupid) mistake. But when the count hit zero awhile ago, sheesh. Such happiness.
Here's the thing. I really suck at spatial games. Seriously. I am really not spatial (I'm just ordinary heehee :p Get it?). Conclusions about space just does not come intuitively for me. I am exceptional (not just great) with numbers and concepts - I can simply jumble and rejumble them in my mind. But when it comes to concrete objects or figures or spaces, I suck as I get easily stucked.
And minesweeper is a very spatial game. You have to imagine how the bombs are spread throughout the board. Heehee.
And finally, I've finished one expert game. Sheesh. To finally complete on game, wow. What an accomplishment.
I'm jubilant. I'm relieved. I'm tired.
Off to sleep now. Tata! :)

Not A Racial Slur
Several people around the world are condemning this photo.
What? Anyway, I am a Filipino of Chinese descent, and I find nothing wrong with this photo. Actually see it as the Spanish's way of trying to be 'one' with the Chinese.
People just have different views, I guess.

Patriotism
I actually don't have a stand on this.
The idea of Olympic mercenaries is not new. So many people have opted to become naturalized citizens of a foreign land so they can compete in the Olympics for quite a long time now. The US has naturalized so much foreigners for its own gain. The fields of interest include sports - swimming, gymnastics, basketball - and even other academics such as mathematics, physics, etc etc.
Heck, the Philippine national basketball team has Fil-Ams for half of its roster. (Tennis - Cecil Mamiit; Golf - Delasin; Swimming - so many; etc etc etc).
But now, some people are starting to take some heat for opting to be naturalized. The particular person I am talking about is Chris Kaman. (JR Holden and Becky Hammon play for Russia)
The guy is an American with German great grandparents. Because of this, he is eligible to become a German citizen and hence play for the German national basketball team - which he did.
And now, he's being heavily criticized. Kobe even came up to him and asked him if he can speak one word of German. Hehe.
Personally, I'm torn about this. Can you imagine playing against your country? Actually putting your hand over your HEART while singing the national anthem of ANOTHER country? Weird feeling.
But the thing is, you'll then be allowed to do what you love to do in a WORLD stage. Chris Kaman is a long long shot for the American national team. But in Germany, he's a superstar.
Selfish? Hmmmm. My initial reaction was to condemn the guy.
But then again, I thought of what I was doing now. I am working in SINGAPORE for an AMERICAN company. Well, not 100% comparable, but still comparable.
By working here in Singapore, I am actually helping boost their GDP with my spending. By working for an American company, I am actually helping the US. Sheesh.
Am I helping my country? Well, yeah. My remittances (which is being spent by mi familias) do help. And I have to say the skills I'm developing here will help... in the FUTURE. Not now though.
Quite sad that I am actually a mercenary now. Being paid to help different countries develop. Am I doing the wrong thing? Well, I hope not.
Short term vs Long term. Sheeesh. So how short is short and how long is long?
Haayyy. Anyway, that's all. :p

Mummy 3
Can I just say, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.
Freakin' waste of your time and your money.
1. They did not do justice to the first two films. As a Mummy fan, this film is just ridiculous. I don't consider this as a Mummy movie. What they did was, they studied the first two films, and got the individual elements that made them work. And then they incorporated everything into this 3rd movie.
Sounds good? OF COURSE NOT! Incoherent and incohesive movie. You can't just tick all the boxes and safely assume the sum will be greater than its parts!!! Sheeeesh.
2. Rachel Weisz is not here. And the replacement? Weird.
3. The storyline was completely unbelievable (in the bad sense) and ungrounded. Abominable SNOWMEN?!?!?! Three-headed DRAGON?!?!?! Dead CHINESE SKELETONS rising out of the blue?!?!?!?! Sheesh. I know we should reward people for being imaginative, but come on! There'll always be limits.
4. The okay parts were dragging (and oh so boring). The acting was contrived.
5. And may I repeat - ABOMINABLE SNOWMEN?!?!?!? WHO CAN SPEAK FLUENT MANDARIN?!?!?!?! SHEEEEEEESH.
DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE.

Game 6
Almost everyone is counting the Lakers out for Game 6.
The win in Game 5 was not convincing enough. Lakers are too young. Celtics have only lost once at home. Celtics have proven they're the better team thus far.
Thus far.
As far as the series goes, only five games have been played. Yes, the Celtics are leading 3-2, making them the better team. Thus far.
If this was a best of five series, okay Boston is the better team. Period. But the series is a best of seven, right? The better team after seven games has not been decided.
Yeah yeah the Lakers' Game 5 win was not convincing. But a win is a win. And as I've said before, the Lakers will win Game 7 only by taking it one game at a time. Game 5 is done - and the Lakers were successful.
And before we speak of game 7, game six must be tackled. And my oh my, the first quarter of that game will be critical.
Boston will be amped up for their first title in 22 years (I think I wasn't even born yet when they last won the title). The players will feed off the crowd's energy and throw everything at the Lakers.
And the Lakers must maintain their pose and composure. Borrowing Doc Rivers' words, it's all about mental toughness. Mental toughness leads to crisp execution. The first quarter of Game 6 will be the difference between a Game 6 Boston rout of the Lakers and an exciting Game 7 wherein all bets are off.
And I hope Phil Jackson is able to prepare the Lakers mentally for the initial minutes of Game 6. The Lakers must have complete confidence that they can still win this - that they are not just going through the motions of an inevitable Boston ring. We must focus on the positives for us. Perkins is injured. Rondo can't do anything vs Kobe.
Boston has given its best and strongest punch. Sadly, the Lakers have not. There's still a huge room for improvement for these Lakers. And they know they can play better than the way they're playing right now.
Hugot lang.
I believe this is not yet over. Game 7 will happen.
